Neo’s Patisserie (formerly Neo’s Classic Delights) was founded in 2010 by Neo Kelebogile Tlhomelang in her mother’s kitchen in Soweto. Neo’s mother was frustrated packing the same boring lunch for work every day, wishing she had a more delicious alternative for stale store-bought bread. She ended up often making “Di Kuku” (tea cakes) with her daughter, thereby fuelling Neo’s passion for baking.
The humble beginnings of the business started with baking fresh delicacies for distribution at her mom’s and sisters workplace. Subsequently, Neo saw an opportunity for selling freshly baked goods in the community in the early morning rush hour, so she started baking “Di Kuku” namely the scones and jam tarts for selling at the local bus stop, creating an ever-growing group of regulars.
Neo’s popularity eventually translated into the formation of Neo’s Classic Delights, which subsequently changed its name to Neo’s Patisserie, which focussed on bigger clients such as church events, weddings and family events. Meanwhile, she continued supplying her ever-growing group of fans with their dose of baked happiness.
